When Should You Book Your 2028 Senior Photos?

If you’re the parent of a Class of 2028 senior, you might be wondering: When should we book senior pictures? The short answer? Earlier than you might think. Senior photography has become a big part of the high school experience, and many of the most popular photographers and dates begin filling up well before senior year even starts. If you already know you want beautiful summer photos, a specific location, or a particular date, planning ahead can make all the difference.

When Should Class of 2028 Seniors Book Their Photographer?

For the Class of 2028, I recommend booking your senior photographer during the summer of 2026 through the summer of 2027. That might sound early, but booking ahead gives you the best selection of dates and allows plenty of time to plan your senior session without feeling rushed.

Many seniors choose to have their photos taken during the summer before their senior year, which means Class of 2028 seniors may be looking at summer 2027 for their main senior session.

And if you have your heart set on a popular summer evening, weekend date, beach session, or a location that photographs beautifully at golden hour, those dates can go quickly.

Why Book Senior Pictures So Early?

You Get the Date You Actually Want! One of the biggest reasons to book early is simply date availability. Summer evenings are some of my most requested senior session times. The combination of warm weather, beautiful light, and that carefree summer feeling makes them perfect for senior portraits.

Waiting until the last minute can mean having to choose from whatever dates remain available rather than getting the date that works best for your senior. You Have Time to Plan the Details

Senior photos don't have to be just one outfit and one location.

I love helping seniors create a session that feels like them. Maybe that means a beautiful beach session, wildflowers, downtown photos, a favorite sports location, a horse, a meaningful family property, or something completely unique. Booking early gives us time to talk about your vision, choose locations, plan outfits, and create a session that feels personal instead of rushed.

Senior year gets busy quickly. Between school, sports, activities, college applications, friends, and everything else that comes with senior year, your calendar can fill up before you know it.

Having your senior photos scheduled ahead of time means one less thing to worry about once school starts. And honestly? Summer is such a special time to capture this season of life. There’s something about photographing a senior during those last carefree summer evenings before everything starts changing.

When Is the Best Time of Year for Senior Photos?

For my seniors, summer and early fall are especially popular. Summer sessions offer warm evenings, beautiful golden light, beaches, wildflowers, and plenty of flexibility before school begins.

Early fall can also be gorgeous, especially if you love a little color and want that classic autumn feeling. There isn't one “right” season for senior photos. The best season is the one that fits your senior's personality and the look you're dreaming about.

So, When Should You Book Your 2028 Senior Photos?

If you're a Class of 2028 senior or parent, now is a great time to start planning.

You don't necessarily need to have every detail figured out today, but getting your photographer booked early gives you the most flexibility and the best chance of securing your preferred date.

Your senior year goes by incredibly fast. These photos aren't just pictures for the yearbook—they're a way to remember who your senior was at this exact moment in their life.

If you're ready to start planning your Class of 2028 senior session, I'd love to hear what you have in mind.
